June 2026: A Mixed Bag

This month was a mix of work and play. Here are some of the fun things that happened along the way.

Bill played guitar in Gretna Theatre’s production of Always… Patsy Cline, so of course I went to see the show. We had lunch at the new Coffee Cottage and I visited their Fairy Garden while I waited for the “doors” to open — it is, after all, an open air theatre, so I suppose you could call it opening the gate. The show was great, as Gretna’s shows always are, with classic music performed by excellent actors/vocalists and a top-notch band. That’s my favorite guitarist (yes, that’s Bill!) onstage before the show. Afterward, we paused at the Jigger Shop for some well-deserved ice cream before we headed home.

My efforts photographing the night sky only yielded a few interesting shots this month. The first was taken in search of a possible Blue Moon photo on June 1st, which I didn’t get, but caught these clouds instead. With the naked eye, the sky was blue with just the hint of clouds. Something about the phone’s camera brought them out more clearly. The second photo is a shot taken 180 degrees from the first. The bright orbs are Jupiter and Venus, astonishingly bright. The last photo is of the waxing moon behind clouds and trees in our back yard on June 25th. The Strawberry Moon on June 29 eluded me, as so many do, because of the cloud cover that night.

The backyard wildlife continues to surprise me. These two bunnies showed up — along with a third rabbit who appeared to want nothing to do with the other two rabbits. Or me, once he caught sight of me!

I also saw this squirrel, who found a handy perch on the rock in my neighbor’s back yard. I don’t often see squirrels exposed in the yard. They are more likely hidden in the limbs of the trees behind our house or scrambling through the fallen leaves. The hawks that I see flying around our neighborhood may be one reason why!

Late in the month Bill and I visited New Cumberland Borough Park for a walk. While there, we saw a flock of geese on the Yellow Breeches Creek, so we stood watching them awhile. One of the geese stretched a little too far over the spillway and landed in the lower section in a flurry of squawks and flapping wings. After he settled down, he floated backwards downstream, looking at the rest of the flock on the upper side of the spillway as if to say, “I meant to do that.”

We find entertainment everywhere!

Work on Personal Risk, Book 3 of the Risk Series, goes on. I received the edits on the book mid-month and expect to finish those in the next few days. If all goes well, I expect to do another read-through, then get the book scheduled for printing. After I know the printer’s schedule, I’ll have a good idea when the release date will be.

The cover art for the new book is coming along. That should also be finalized over the next month, so I’ll have much more news for you in the next newsletter.

Until then, enjoy the journey!
