February 2026: Did The Groundhog Get It Right?

I would say that the groundhog did get it right, or in my case, all three groundhogs agreed: at least six more weeks of winter. Since their prediction, we’ve had heavy snow, light snow, sleet, a quick warmup, and then more snow. Winter is not over yet and probably won’t be until March 20th, if not sometime in April. Let’s take a look at the past month.

My month was filled with baking, bears, and a bunny. The bread was a tasty addition to some of our meals. The cupcakes were in honor of Valentine’s Day. The bears were part of a story on finding a lost brother for my Instagram/Facebook feed. And the bunny, bless his heart, was the only one I’ve seen since winter started. With this cold, even the squirrels are keeping a low profile!

The full moon this month was on Februrary 1st. It was the Snow Moon, which I managed to miss completely. I finally caught up with the moon on February 5th for this shot.

To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of snow or cold, but I’m enjoying all the snow photography I’ve gotten to do. I captured these two shots at different times of day, one at 11:30 at night, the other the next morning around 8:00 a.m. I was astounded how bright and clear the night photography was with the reflected light of the snow cover and low clouds.

Also took a shot of my favorite “Three Pines” in a neighbor’s yard and a close-up of a snow-covered bird feeder near those trees.

Still not much to report book-wise. The work continues on book three, Personal Risk. The earlier books, Special Risk and Flood Risk, will be available at the Luther Acres Book Fest in Lititz on March 28th. Also, I will be doing a short book talk there on A Sense Of Place, which will discuss how I use locations in my books. There will be thirty plus authors from all genres at this festival and it’s free and open to the public, so put it on your calendar now!

And don’t forget to enjoy the journey!
