Bio

Hello, I’m author Sandy Nork.

I’ve been a reader since I first met The Dana Girls when I was seven and I became a writer by ten. I made my first dollar at twelve, writing a catchphrase for a local radio station.

In other lives, I have been a fabric inspector, an envelope stuffer, an inventory control clerk, and a customer service rep for welding wire. I was a librarian for 23 years before I retired – although once you’re a librarian, you’re pretty much always a librarian. But while I lived those lives, I was also a writer.

Now I am a member of Pennwriters, a state-wide-and-beyond organization for writers. I was a participant in A Novel Idea, a year-long study program of novel writing offered by the Perry County Council of the Arts in Newport, Pennsylvania. I was honored to have one of my short stories chosen to be included in the compilation Strange Magic, edited by Catherine Jordan and published by Sunbury Press.

My husband, Bill, is a musician who inspired my Valerie Sloan books, a mystery/suspense series about a Japanese-American insurance investigator who searches for valuable instruments that go missing. She often bumps into a crime family who interferes with her work and life. Special Risk, the first book in the series, is about a guitar, a dentist who used to be in a one-hit-wonder band, and a pair of ne’er-do-well thieves. In Flood Risk, the second book, a Nashville star’s mandolin is stolen and the crime family – yes, they are back! – creates havoc.

In addition to being a writer, I consider myself a musical tourist, coffee drinker, baking devotee, and technology aficionado. I love tiny toys and am a friend of all dogs. Well, most dogs.

I post photos of my morning coffee and adventures with my toys on Instagram as novelgal and on Facebook as Sandy Nork. You may also occasionally find me on Twitter as @novelgal.

Enough about me. How about you? I’d love to hear from you. Sign up to follow my blog and send me a comment!

    1. Thanks for the invitation, Kim, but I am not able to make it that day. Perhaps next year? By then I should have another book to talk about. Please keep me in mind. Sandy

  2. Hi Sandy, I coulda/shoulda talked with you more at the Harvest Party last weekend. My skills are off. For many reasons these past two years. So now I am learning about you via your bio as I pursue purchase of your books. I look forward to reading them. And I hope to meet you again.

    1. Hi, Debbie, that’s been the case for all of us, I think. It’s been a tough time. I’m looking forward to the possibility of in-person appearances again. I did one in September and really enjoyed getting back out there. Maybe soon! In the meantime, I’m concentrating on finishing Flood Risk (Valerie Sloan, Book 2).
